Business method patents have been widely criticized. I have searched in vain for a clear definition of what a business method patent is. If you just take the literal meaning, a patent related to how a business in operates, then every patent is a business method patent. A patent on a light bulb is a business method patent since it covers how a company intends to build a light bulb. I contend that no coherent definition of a business method patent can be found. For more information see my post on the Bilski case http://hallingblog.com/2009/06/08/bilski-software-patents-and-business-method-patents/
