Why is Singapore so hot?

As Alpha Mail readers may recall, AllAboutAlpha.com is broadcasting on location this week from Singapore and Hong Kong.

When Alpha Male and our extensive support staff arrive at any new location, we like to pay our respects to the local hedge fund dignitaries before getting down to business.  And today was no exception.  After a quick shower and a change of clothes, Alpha Male had the pleasure of an audience with Peter Douglas, Chairman of AIMA Singapore and CAIA director.

I asked Douglas why there was so much recent hedge fund excitement in this tiny city state.  Why all the new prime brokerages and service providers?  Was Singapore the beneficiary of hedge funds fleeing Hong Kong, as some have hypothesized?

No, said Douglas, “This isn’t a Hong Kong vs. Singapore story.  It’s all about critical mass.”  He says that the island has reached a “point of inflection” in its growth and is now really taking off.

Whatever the reason, Singapore is a hot place to be right now.  Really hot.  Like, my shirt is drenched and the sweat from my hands is dripping onto my keyboard.  Here’s a Singapore hedge fund idea for ya: long Carrier, short electric water heaters.
